On November 23, 2019, School of Life Science and Biotechnology, Adamas University organized a day trip for first year students of B.Sc. (Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Geography and Psychology) program to the Indian Museum, Park Street Kolkata, West Bengal. This was part of the curriculum for all students studying Zoology as their elective subject. There were 51 students participated in this trip, accompanied by five faculty members including Dr. Joydeep Paul, Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Dr. Abinit Saha, Dr. Subhendu Bandhopadhyay and Dr. Saptarshi Chatterjee. The Indian Museum in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is the ninth oldest museum of the world and the second largest museum in India, has rare collections of invertebrate specimens, verbebrate specimens and fossils, skeletons. The Indian Museum also has an exciting human evolution gallery which displays key incidents and timelines of evolution and migration of human in this planet. The purpose of the tour is to expose the students to experience various processes of evolution and to educate them about the nature and about the animal kingdom. Students learnt and understood the process and importance of conservation and preservation and also about the evolutionary process that gradually changes the environment around us. The students were inspired with the fun-filled and informal way of learning, which not only involves beyond the classroom activities but also a location-based learning. The trip had a lasting effect on their minds and they are further encouraged to carry out community outreach activities.
