The Department of Biochemistry in the School of Life Science and Biotechnology, Adamas University organised a seminar on September 12, 2019 on “Emerging Trends and Advancements in Biochemical Research”. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Ujjwal K Chowdhury, honourable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Adamas University, with a welcome address to greet dignitaries, speakers and participants with a brief introduction of the different academic activities of the School of Life Science and Biotechnology. He commended the initiative from Department of Biochemistry for offering the students and faculty members glimpses of current activities in biochemical research. Distinguished guest speakers, Prof. Shubho Choudhuri, Division of Plant Biology, Bose Institute, Kolkata and Dr. Anirban Bhunia, Associate Professor, Department of Biophysics, Bose Institute, Kolkata, were felicitated by honourable Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mita Banerjee and Prof. Ujjwal K. Chowdhury respectively.
Prof. Choudhury delivered his talk on “Chromatin complexity & gene regulation during plant stress”. The speaker focused on the importance of epigenetic modulation with respect to the salt stress response in plants. In the subsequent talk, Dr. Bhunia explained the importance of “Studies of Antimicrobial Peptides & Amyloids in model membrane”. Both the speeches were followed by interactive session between the participants and speakers. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Srijan Haldar, Head, Department of Biochemistry and convener of the event. The endeavour was highly appreciated by Dean, School of Life Science and Biotechnology and faculty members of the University.
