A student team from the School of Life Science and Biotechnology presented a poster titled “Microbes: A viable solution for reducing plastic pollution” at the Chapter XVI, Modern Trends in Microbiology organized by the Department of Microbiology, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata on September 27, 2019. Third year undergraduate students who presented the poster include Madhusmita Adhikari (B.Sc. Microbiology), Sneha Roy (B.Sc. Biotechnology), Manisha De (B.Sc. Biochemistry) and Soumili Sen (B.Sc. Biotechnology). Students were guided by Dr. Arindam Mitra, Head, Department of Microbiology. Rima Roy, Ph.D scholar, Department of Biotechnology also assisted students in developing the poster. The presentation described the role of microbes in degrading plastics into non toxic products and reducing plastic pollution.
