The fourth talk of the Seminar Series from the School of Life Science and Biotechnology was held at Adamas University Auditorium on December 05, 2019. The engaging talk “Institute to Industry through the eyes of a Biotechnologist” was delivered by Dr. Shibabrata Mukherjee, Industry Technology Specialist from Novozymes South Asia Private Limited. Dr. Mukherjee was invited by Dr. Arpita Das from School of Life Science and Biotechnology. Dr. Mukherjee initiated his talk with product specific and corporate functions in industry such as R&D, IP, Procurement and Production, Quality Control and Quality Assurance and Technical services where students can find entry level employment opportunities immediately after completion of degree. He emphasised to students the importance of having a strong grasp of fundamentals. By providing several industry specific examples from enzyme production and fermentation process, he demonstrated how hard skills and learnings are translated and applied in industry. Dr. Mukherjee also highlighted that certain soft skills are required in industry such as positive attitude, open mindedness, listening, communication, presentation, fast learning, agility, adaptation, innovation and leadership among others. The seminar had been highly interactive with several case studies and troubleshooting exercises from industry to enable students to make connection between academia and industry. Following his seminar, he touched upon how to craft a CV for industry and the possibility of six-month to one-year internship at Novozymes, Bangalore.
