Dr. Jayanta Mukhopadhyay completed his Ph.D. from Bose Institute (Jadavpur University) in the year of 2000, before doing his doctoral work at Bose Institute he done his Masters in Physics from IIT, Kharagpur, India and completed his B.Sc. in the year 1991 in Physics. Currently, he is working as a professor in the Department of Chemistry, Bose Institute. His primary area of research is prokaryotic gene expression and transcriptional biology. His lab is doing research to characterize the interactions among RNAP, sigma factors, and regulators required for various gene expressions in prokaryotes, e.g. Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Before joining Bose Institute as a faculty member, he was associated as Research Specialist II at Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Waksman Institute, Rutgers University, USA. He also awarded several awards including the prestigious CSIR fellowship and also National Scholarship. He received Howard Hughes Medical Institute Postdoctoral Associate award at the year of 2000 to conduct his research work in USA.
