Dr. Bandyopadhyay did his B.Sc.(H) in Chemistry & M.Sc. in Biochemistry from University of Calcutta. He qualified both Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) & CSIR-UGC NET (LS with AIR 30). He has obtained his PhD from the Dept. of Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Bio-informatics, University of Calcutta. His doctoral thesis dealt with biochemical and molecular markers in five species of the genus Phyllanthus where with the help of biochemical and molecular markers he has distinguished five different medicinally important species of this genus. (Plant Biosystems147(1),12-20; Octa. J. Biosci. 2(2):105-110; Asian Journal of Plant Sciences 9(5), 264-270).

Dr. Bandyopadhyay  has been awarded the very prestigious DBT Research Associateship (DBT RA) & worked on a research project entitled, “Understanding the molecular basis of morphogenesis in the model plant Selaginella” where he analyzed different developmental stages of in vitrogrown cultures of Selaginella microphylla with the help of DNA markers and sequenced them to understand the molecular circuitry of the developmental process. (Biologia Plantarum 57(3), 597-600). Dr. Bandyopadhyay then joined Plant Biology Division of Bose Institute, Kolkata where he worked on a DBT project entitled, “Generation of Salt tolerant rice: A translational approach” in which we developed transgenic salt tolerant indica rice varities through Agrobacterium mediated transformations involving genes from inositol metabolic pathway taken from the salt tolerant wild rice variety Portresia coarctata. (Accepted for publication in Scientific Reports 2019). He has got two best poster awards in his research career. Apart from his research activities he has also more than two years of teaching experience.
