Colloqium “A bouquet of stories” presented by Prof. Partha Majumdar, Distinguished Professor and Founder Director of National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG).
Prof. Partha Majumdar, Distinguished Professor and Founder Director of National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), presented a talk “A bouquet of stories” at the Adamas University Auditorium on October 18, 2019. The Colloqium was organized jointly by the Center for Research and Innovation and the School of Life Science and Biotechnology. During his tailor made talk directed to students, Prof. Majumdar presented several case studies of cancer patients including that of Angelina Jolie and Amelia Morrison. He then went on to discuss details of mutations (change in DNA sequence) and frequency of these mutations that lead to development of cancer in individuals. He also discussed recent therapeutic strategies to combat cancer. Prof. Majumdar eloquently read few paragraphs from the book “When breath becomes air” by Paul Kalanithi. This moving book described the journey of Paul Kalanithi, a neurosurgeon at Stanford Medical School who later become a cancer patient himself. Prof. Majumdar interacted with students during question and answer session at the end of his talk. He mentioned that for student’s summer internship at NIBMG, students need to apply through National Science Academy program. During his interaction with faculty members, he also discussed the possibility of collaboration between faculty member of NIBMG and Adamas University.
