Introduction to the course

B. Tech in Food Technology is a scientific branch that deals with the techniques involved in production, processing, preservation, packaging, labeling, quality management, and distribution of food products. The field also involves techniques and processes that are used to transform raw materials into food. Extensive research goes behind making food items edible as well as nutritious. As deep as we go into the dimensions of food technology, we require professionals in this field. And, this has led to the emergence of food technology courses.

What are the learning outcomes?

  • To acquire in depth knowledge of fundamental principles and processes of food technology.
  • To develop a complete knowledge of the discipline through different modes of teaching, i.e. hands-on practical training, scientific model building, independent learning and scientific product development.
  • To acquire better awareness of the major issues at the forefront of the discipline.
  • To design and carry out different scientific experiments and to interpret experimental data.
  • To focus on a scientific problem and to develop an original research proposal on it.
    To develop skills related to gaining of employment in the different industries in the field of Food technology i.e. Food biochemistry, Food Process Technology, Computational Biology and Algorithm etc.

We cover a wide range of subjects as per the requirement of different graduate and post-graduate courses, such as Food Biochemistry & Nutrition, Basics of Microbiology, Food Microbiology and Preservations, Computational Biology and Algorithm, Process Instrumentation and Control, Process Calculations, Thermodynamics in Food Science, Quality Control & Food Safety etc.

Specializations offered in the form Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC).

Lab Infrastructure:

Highly sophisticated biological laboratories that include Bioinformatics Lab, Microbiology Lab, Biochemistry Lab, General Chemistry Lab, Computational Biology and Algorithm Lab etc.

  • Food technology is the biggest business across the globe, so various government and private open positions in the country.
  • Employment opportunities in various fields like food industry, beverage industry, brewery industry, hospitals, restaurants, food processing companies, catering establishments, soft drink manufacturing firms, spice, cereal, and rice mills, quality control organizations, food research laboratories and packaging industries, consumer product industry, manufacturing, animal husbandry, agriculture and environment industry as safety officer, quality assurance officer, food safety officer, scientific content writer, grant officer etc.
