B.Sc. (Hons) Biochemistry

Introduction to the course

Biochemistry is the amalgamation of chemistry and biological sciences. It brings together all of the sciences to study the chemical and physical processes that occur in living organisms. It truly is the science of life. Also, the course provides an introduction to several important metabolic pathways and bioenergetics, including state of the art modern techniques relevant to present day research in academia and industry.

What are the learning outcomes?

To acquire in depth knowledge of key principles in biochemistry.
To develop better understanding of the discipline through taught modules and independent learning i.e. hands-on practical training.
To develop hardcore specialization in various diversified areas of biochemistry and its application to Medicine, Agriculture, Environment, Neutraceuticals and functional food etc.
To acquire better awareness of the major issues at the forefront of the discipline.
To design and carry out experiments (safely) and to interpret experimental data.
To focus on a scientific problem and to develop an original research proposal on it.
To develop skills related to gaining of employment in the pharmaceutical, neutraceutical, clinical research, forensic labs, public health entities, agriculture or biotechnology industries.
To function effectively as an individual and in a team, including diverse and multidisciplinary settings, to accomplish a task.
