Introduction to the course Biochemistry

In the Department of Biochemistry PhD., students have the opportunity to be trained in leading edge research in the Life Sciences. The research focus of the department encompasses around specialized areas of cancer biology, molecular and cell biology, proteomics and bioinformatics, immunology, protein folding and structure-function relationships, gene expression and development, membranology, drug discovery, and the molecular basis of disease. The course-work segment is designed for learning of advances in above-mentioned specialized areas of biochemistry alongside research methodologies, computational methods, bioinformatics and biostatistics. The curriculum additionally trains students for efficient research, technical and professional communication.
The course is designed for M. Sc pass outs with Biochemistry or related subjects. Generally the projected tenure for Ph. D is 5 years- depending of funding availability and progress of particular projects. Though, the course widens the opportunity for being engaged in cutting edge research in this country or abroad, students are eligible for jobs in academia, industry, government sector as well as administrative positions after completion of the course.
