Dr. Arindam Mitra, Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Microbiology, School of Life Science and Biotechnology recently joined as an editorial board member of Access Microbiology, a new cutting-edge research journal in the field of Microbiology. The journal is broad in scope and allows publication of replication studies, negative or null results, data management plans, additions to established methods, and interdisciplinary work. Publication criteria of the journal are based on methodological rigor instead of novelty and the journal is fully Open Access. Dr. Mitra was invited in the first ever editorial board meeting of Access Microbiology held at the Microbiology Society office in London on November 22, 2019. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the publication strategies of the journal and how to further develop it. The meeting was highly productive with numerous suggestions, feedback and comments on open access, library access, scope of the journal, submissions and how the journal can better serve early career microbiologists.
