Introduction to the course

Biotechnology is one of the interdisciplinary subjects of biological science. The different courses of our Department deal with the major fundamental and as well as modern elements of the global significance of biotechnology. The main focus of our course is to identify every scientific detail of the subject both in the context of “traditional” versus “modern” biotechnological processes designed according to the current needs of the society. The main objective of the course is to make students well fitted for different biotechnological processes/ products and enterprises with a modern global outlook.

What are the learning outcomes?

To acquire in depth knowledge of fundamental principles and processes of biotechnology.
To develop a complete knowledge of the discipline through different modes of teaching, i.e. hands-on practical training, scientific model building, independent learning and scientific product development.
To acquire better awareness of the major issues at the forefront of the discipline.
To design and carry out different scientific experiments and to interpret experimental data.
To focus on a scientific problem and to develop an original research proposal on it.
To develop skills related to gaining of employment in the different industries in the field of Biotechnology i.e. pharmaceutical, agricultural, medicinal and nano biotechnology.

Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or related subjects in Science from a recognized University or equivalent (with a minimum of 55% marks), with a valid NET/GATE/SET/ RET.

  1. Introduction to the course

The objective of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to educate students who can bridge engineering with life sciences in the service of human health and represent the biomedical profession with distinction. Our department serves as a conduit for a better understanding of biology through engineering concepts and for utilizing the complex organization of life systems in developing new technologies. The educational objectives of the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program are that the graduates will work in research careers by applying their background and knowledge towards the advancement of technology and the betterment of society by contributing to educational and social institutions.

Our fundamental aim is to instill a passion for learning, scientific discovery, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and societal impact in an extraordinary group of graduates who, because of their experiences in our program will –

  • Continue to utilize and enhance their engineering and biological training to solve problems related to health and healthcare that are globally relevant and based on ethically sound principles.
  • Demonstrate leadership in their respective careers in biomedical engineering or interrelated areas of industry, government, academia, and clinical practice, and
  • Engage in life-long learning by continuing their education in graduate or professional school or through opportunities for advanced career or professional training.

3. Lab Infrastructure (if applicable):

• This course includes Computing Laboratories consist of several computers with essential software tools, IBM PCs for Intel 8086 microprocessor assembly language programming, Intel 8051 microcontroller kits, and interfacing kits such as ADC, DAC, LCD, and Stepper motor.
• Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory consists of several types of equipment such as Physiograph, Defibrillator, Incubator, and ECG recording system, Phonocardiograph and Sensor & Transducer kits.
• Research Laboratory is equipped with an SPO monitoring system, DC 2 defibrillator, Neonatal Incubator, and computing facilities for research activities.
• Physiological Signal Acquisition Laboratory is equipped with the Power Lab – a 4-channel physiological signal acquisition system with a bio-stimulator to acquire physiological signals such as ECG, EEG, EMG, EOG, Respiration, Pulse, BP, and Handgrip. The lab is also equipped with a subject-bed.
• It will also incorporate practical knowledge through assigned projects in the duration of this course.

Internships offer a perfect blend of Industry-Academia environment which develops students with practical hands-on sessions, live projects, and case studies to pursue the ideas, cultivate the spirit of curiosity, and sustain a passion for excellence.
Project Works offers the students a platform to apply into action a mix of engineering knowledge and bags of imagination, innovation, and creativity An unique end-to-end integration of engineering and healthcare disciplines is the primary objective of this work.

Biomedical Engineering is the future. The United States Bureau of Labour Statistics reports that “Employment of Biomedical engineers is expected to grow by 62% from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will be strong because an aging population is likely to need more medical care and because of increased public awareness of Biomedical Engineering advances and their benefits”. This growth is much faster than average. Specific growth areas cited in the report included computer-assisted surgery, cellular and tissue engineering, rehabilitation, and orthopedic engineering. Biotechnology is an area with a clear ability for Translational Research. Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or related subjects in Science from a recognized University or equivalent (with a minimum of 55% marks), with a valid NET/GATE/SET/ RET.

B. Tech in Bio Medical Engineering (4 Yrs)
  1. Introduction to the course

The objective of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to educate students who can bridge engineering with life sciences in the service of human health and represent the biomedical profession with distinction. Our department serves as a conduit for a better understanding of biology through engineering concepts and for utilizing the complex organization of life systems in developing new technologies. The educational objectives of the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program are that the graduates will work in research careers by applying their background and knowledge towards the advancement of technology and the betterment of society by contributing to educational and social institutions.

Our fundamental aim is to instill a passion for learning, scientific discovery, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and societal impact in an extraordinary group of graduates who, because of their experiences in our program will –

  • Continue to utilize and enhance their engineering and biological training to solve problems related to health and healthcare that are globally relevant and based on ethically sound principles.
  • Demonstrate leadership in their respective careers in biomedical engineering or interrelated areas of industry, government, academia, and clinical practice, and

3. Lab Infrastructure (if applicable):

• This course includes Computing Laboratories consist of several computers with essential software tools, IBM PCs for Intel 8086 microprocessor assembly language programming, Intel 8051 microcontroller kits, and interfacing kits such as ADC, DAC, LCD, and Stepper motor.
• Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory consists of several types of equipment such as Physiograph, Defibrillator, Incubator, and ECG recording system, Phonocardiograph and Sensor & Transducer kits.
• Research Laboratory is equipped with an SPO monitoring system, DC 2 defibrillator, Neonatal Incubator, and computing facilities for research activities.
• Physiological Signal Acquisition Laboratory is equipped with the Power Lab – a 4-channel physiological signal acquisition system with a bio-stimulator to acquire physiological signals such as ECG, EEG, EMG, EOG, Respiration, Pulse, BP, and Handgrip. The lab is also equipped with a subject-bed.
• It will also incorporate practical knowledge through assigned projects in the duration of this course.

The United States Bureau of Labour Statistics reports that “Employment of Biomedical engineers is expected to grow by 62% from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will be strong because an aging population is likely to need more medical care and because of increased public awareness of Biomedical Engineering advances and their benefits”. This growth is much faster than average. Specific growth areas cited in the report included computer-assisted surgery, cellular and tissue engineering, rehabilitation, and orthopedic engineering.
